Law & Order: July 15-21

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police Department between 7-15-16 thru 7-21-16. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of Law.

JULY 15, Friday:
9:00 a.m. Caller reported an individual was agitated and was yelling at her and wanted an officer. Officer responded and stood by. 10:20 p.m. Caller reported a truck spinning its tires in a parking lot and speeding down a road. Officer responded and contacted a driver who denied the incident. 10:24 p.m. Caller reported a group of people walking behind a business possibly carrying alcohol. Officer responded and spoke with the individuals, had the mess cleaned up and warned them of drinking laws. 11:21 p.m. Caller requested an officer drive by campground that people were being loud and drinking. Officer responded and vehicle left.

JULY 16, Saturday:
1:01 a.m. Caller reported hearing loud shouting coming from a park. Officer responded and found two individuals but denied hearing yelling. Officer did not locate anyone else in the area. 10:00 a.m. Caller requested a medical transport from the hospital to the airport. Ambulance was paged and transported patient to the airport. 12:19 p.m. Caller reported their child swallowed something and was choking. Ambulance responded and infant had thrown up a piece of plastic. 3:36 p.m. Officer reported an individual told him that people were speeding in his residence and when he approached an individual about it they had ran into his arm with their vehicle. Individual did not want to press charges. 7:54 p.m. Caller requested an ambulance for a man who had collapsed. Officer and ambulance responded and individual was transported to the hospital.

JULY 17, Sunday:
1:49 a.m. Caller reported a MVA and that the vehicle was on its side. Caller also stated that two individuals had fled the scene. Incident is under investigation. 3:19 a.m. Caller reported a large fight going on that had started inside a local establishment and then made its way outside. Officers responded and incident is under investigation. 4:02 a.m. Caller requested an officer to remove an individual from their place of business. Officers responded to scene and the individual was outside and unwilling to leave. Eventually the individual agreed to go home and the officer provided transportation. 5:01 a.m. Officers observed a passed out individual in a running vehicle. After making sure the individual was ok they performed field sobriety tests. John Schoof, age 48 of Molalla OR, was arrested for driving under the influence. 4:07 p.m. Caller requested a welfare check on a family member. Officer made contact with the individual via phone and had the individual call home. 7:18 p.m. Caller reported a drunk driver that was driving recklessly and had almost hit some cars. Officer patrolled the area and was unable to locate the vehicle. 9:49 p.m. Caller reported overly loud music. Officer responded and spoke with the responsible party who agreed to turn the music down.

JULY 18, Monday:
2:57 a.m. Dispatch observed an individual approach the station and take a bike. Shortly after, the individual returned the bike and road off with a different bike. An Officer located the bike at a residence and spoke to the occupant who then admitted to taking the bike. Karen Chappell, age 52 of Cordova AK, was charged with theft in the third degree. 11:10 a.m. Caller requested help to blow smoke out of an apartment. A Fire officer responded with fans and helped air out the apartment. 4:10 p.m. CPD received a summons to be served on an individual. Later that day officers attempted to serve the summons but the individual fled the scene. 7:00 p.m. Officers arrested Melina Meyer, age 26 of Cordova AK, for two counts of assault 4, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. 8:10 p.m. Caller reported 3 people are sitting in a vehicle drinking. Caller reported back a few minutes later and reported the vehicle had drove off. 9:30 p.m. Caller reported that some people used bikes from their business and one of them had been stolen. Officer located the bike and the owner picked it up.

JULY 19, Tuesday:
Caller reported that their spouse had hit them and then left the house. Officers patrolled the area and located the suspect. Officer arrested Juan Emilio Montanez Fernandez, age 31 of Cordova AK, for assault in the second degree, two counts of assault in the third degree, criminal mischief in the third degree and interfering with a report of a crime involving domestic violence. 12:45 p.m. Caller reported that their vessel had hit a sandbar and that it is taking on water. Dispatch contacted Coastguard Sector Anchorage who took over the call. 1:10 p.m. Caller reported that they had been sitting on one of the lifts at ski hill and it started moving downhill leaving them stranded in the air. Officer responded and dispatch tried contacting the responsible party. Responsible party showed up and started the lift again and the caller got off safely.

JULY 20, Wednesday:
1:35 a.m. Caller reported a noise complaint coming from the parking lot of a local establishment. Officers spoke with the group and they agreed to move on to their residence. 2:23 a.m. Caller reported people shooting fireworks off within city limits and that it had woken them up. Officer responded and tried to observe where the fireworks were being shot from but they had ceased before he had got there. 11:12 a.m. Ilanka Heath Center requested transportation of one of their patients to CCMC. Ambulance responded and provided transport. 11:13 a.m. Caller reported they needed an ambulance for an individual they were with. Paged ambulance and they responded. 1:18 p.m. CCMC requested a medical transport to mile 13 airport for a medivac flight. Ambulance waited at hospital until medivac arrived then provided transport.

JULY 21, Thursday:
1:31 a.m. Worker at a local establishment reported that they had taken an individual’s ID because they had been sharing it with others and requested an officer. Officers responded and verified the ID and the individual was determined to be of age. 1:55 a.m. Officers informed dispatch that they had an individual in custody for indecent exposure. Clifford Olsen, age 56 of Cordova AK, was arrested for access of drunken persons to licensed premises and indecent exposure in the second degree. 2:17 p.m. CCMC requested a medical transport to the mile 13 airport for a medivac flight. Ambulance responded and provided transport. 7:31 p.m. Dispatcher noticed that a prisoner was in need of medical assistance. Ambulance was paged and transported the individual to CCMC.

NOTES FROM CORDOVA DMV:
DMV HOURS: Tuesday – Thurs from 8am to 3:30pm unless otherwise posted.  Motorcycle testing is still available, weather permitting. DMV has moved to 602 Railroad Ave. Payments now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations, citations.
