Cordova holds its own among top fisheries

Cordova ranked 10th in the nation in 2015 for seafood pounds landed and 13th nationally in the value of that catch, according to the latest federal fisheries report.

Harvesters delivered 162 million pounds of seafood to Cordova in 2015, up from 85 million pounds in 2014, while the value of that catch dropped from $135 million in 2014 to $69 million last year, according to the annual Fisheries of the United States report released on Oct. 26 by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Dutch Harbor once again led the nation for volume, with 787 million pounds of seafood landed, up from 762 million pounds in 2014, while New Bedford, MA again led for value, at $322 million in 2015, down from $329 million a year earlier.

Kodiak was second in the nation for pounds landed in 2015, at 514 million pounds, up from 477 pounds in 2014, while the Alaska Peninsula ranked eighth for volume, landing 268 million pounds, up from 170 million pounds in 2014.

Dutch Harbor ranked second nationally for value, with seafood delivered there earning $218 million, up from $191 million in 2014. The Aleutian Islands ranked fourth nationally for value, at $111 million, up from $107 a year earlier, followed by the Alaska Peninsula in seventh place at $90 million, up from $87 million, and Bristol Bay, where deliveries also earned $90 million, up from $82 million in 2014.
