ASMI seeks new communications director

The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, within the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development, is seeking candidates for the position of communications director.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 23.

The opening has occurred because of the forthcoming departure of Tyson Fick, who will become the executive director of Alaska Bering Sea Crabbers in December. Fick has served as the communications director for ASMI for the past six years.

The ASMI post, located in Juneau, supports domestic and international marketing programs, and requires the communications director to interact with the seafood industry, news media, state and local policy makers, and the business community.

The communications director functions as a legislative liaison for ASMI with the  Alaska Legislature, the Alaska State office in Washington D.C and with the Alaska congressional delegation.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and a strong background in communications. Experience in fisheries and/or government affairs is preferred.
