Applicants sought for PWS Pollock test fishery

State fisheries managers are soliciting bids to contract a vessel to conduct a test fishery to harvest up to 900,000 pounds of Pollock in Prince William Sound.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game said on Dec. 16 that eligible vessels must register for the 2017 Prince William Sound directed Pollock trawl fishery.

Revenues generated from the test fishery will be used to offset the cost of Prince William Sound groundfish assessment and management.

The test fishery is set for noon on Jan. 12 through noon Jan. 19, the week before the regulatory opening of the directed pollock trawl fishery in Prince William Sound.

The minimum bid price is $0.030 a pound.  Bids will be accepted for three individual lots of 300,000 pounds each.

Contracts for each lot will be awarded to the highest bidder within three decimal places.  In the event of a bidding tie, the contract will be awarded via a drawing.  All costs associated with the test fishery will be assumed by the successful bidder.
