Cordova opens conference play with sweep of Tok

Cordova’s basketball squads traveled to Tok on Jan. 6-7 for their first 2A Interior Conference games of the season, and came home with a clean sweep against their Wolverine counterparts.

The Cordova High School boys won the weekend series, 51-47 and 57-42

“They’re a scrappy outfit,” said CHS Coach Mike Adams. “They played especially hard at home, and just wouldn’t let up.”

Top scorers for Cordova in the first game were Cody Sjostedt with 17, Andrew Werner with seven, and Zach Hamberger with 6. Werner led Cordova with 20, and Sjostedt added 17, in the rematch.

The Cordova girls also swept Tok, winning by scores of 52-26 and 51-36.  Leigh Peebles was top scorer in both games, with 18 points the first day and 15 points the second.

The Cordova girls also played against Valdez in an “Endowment Game” on Thursday, January 5, at Valdez, losing to the Bucs 46-35..

Additionally, the Cordova JV boys played their first games of the season, losing to Valdez by 21, and then splitting a series with the Delta JV’s at Tok, winning 40-26 the first game, and losing the second game by 16.
