RFM report on Alaska salmon awaits comment

The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute says the Alaska RFM certification craft assessment report for re-certification of the Alaska salmon fishery is now available for registered stakeholder comment.

The 30-day comment period runs through Feb. 21, at 5 p.m. Pacific time.

The certification body, Global Trust/SAI Global, is conducting the re-assessment fo the Alaska salmon fishery. All registered stakeholders will be sent a copy of the report.

Stakeholders can register to receive the report at http://www.gtcert.com/dsp_contact.cfm/Ext/contact?subject=US%20Alaska%20Salmon%20Commercial%20Fisheries

The assessment team appointed to the fishery assessment will review comments and determine if clarifications, updates or modifications to the report are necessary. The certification body will ultimately preside over the final outcome on certification of a fishery consistent with accreditation requirements and the certification program’s rules.

ASMI said that information is most useful to the assessment team when it is specific and includes constructive suggestions for improving existing situations. Also welcome is supporting documentary evidence for any issues of concern.
