The Cordova Wolverines remain undefeated in 2A Interior Conference play after topping Nenana 52-42 and 43-41 at Nenana on January 27-28. The pair of wins improved their Conference record to 6-0, with games against Glennallen scheduled for this weekend in Glennallen.
Cordova’s Cody Sjostedt had a big game on Jan. 27, scoring 24 points. Freshman teammate Christian Adams was also in double digits, with 17. CHS led 28-24 at halftime, and held the Lynx to only 5 points in the next period, extending their advantage to 13 points going into the last stanza.
On Jan. 28, Nenana battled back from a 37-30 deficit after three periods to make it close. The Lynx outscored CHS 11-6 in the last 8 minutes while holding Sjsotedt and Andrew Muma scoreless in that stretch. Sjostedt topped the Cordova scoring with 14, Muma added 12.
Nenana’s Chris Jerue finished with a game big 20 points, after scoring 14 the night before.
“They are a scrappy bunch”, said CHS Coach Mike Adams. “Plus they were playing without their big man, who was the Conference Playoff MVP last year.”
Cordova opened the trip with a loss to the Palmer JV’s on Jan. 25. Stats for that game were not available.
The Wolverines now have an 8-6 overall record, with 9 games left on their regular season schedule before Conference Playoffs at Glennallen on March 9-11.
