The Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches Award Banquet took place April 14 at Dimond High School, in Anchorage. Cordova High School had four athletes participating in the events. Seniors Andrew Muma, Andrew Werner, and Leigha Peebles participated in the weekend events and played in the game, and freshman Christian Adams received the Point Guard College (PGC) Heart of a Champion award. CHS Girls Varsity Coach Brad Sjostedt, and CHS Boys Junior Varsity Coach Bert Adams attended.
“The event is sponsored by AABC and selection is by the coaches throughout the state of Alaska. Coaches nominate players and then vote on list of players nominated is how I understand it,” Adams said.

Coach Brad Sjostedt and All Star basketball player Leigha Peebles stand outside his Cessna-185 on Saturday April 15th near Eyak Lake after a brief trip to Anchorage. Sjostedt didn’t want Peebles to have to choose between playing in the Alaska Senior All Star basketball game or going to her senior prom, so he flew her and her mom Mikie McHone roughly 150-miles to Anchorage in time for the All Star banquet then back home to Cordova after the game in time for prom.
