The Cordova Public Library will be spending the week of Oct. 15-21 celebrating its Friends of the Library group as part of the 12th annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week.
The Friends of the Cordova Public Library were established as a non-profit recently and have raised funds for the purchase of books, furnishings and more. Currently the local Friends of the Library group is preparing for their annual “Trick or Treat for Boooooks!” event; set to take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 31.
Celebration activities include special children’s programs based on the theme of friendship.
“Our library would be much poorer without the Friends,” said library director Cathy Sherman. “The funds they raise definitely put the icing on the cake. I think most patrons would be surprised to learn how many of the services and programs they enjoy are supported by the Friends.”
Please visit contact the library at 907-424-6667 to find out how to become a member of the Friends.
National Friends of Libraries Week is coordinated by United for Libraries, a division of the American Library Association with approximately 4,000 personal and group members representing hundreds of thousands of library supporters. United for Libraries supports those who govern, promote, advocate and fundraise for libraries, and brings together library trustees, advocates, friends, and foundations into a partnership that creates a powerful force for libraries in the 21st century.
