Teal Webber has been making plays all season for the Cordova girls basketball team.

The only thing lacking was a signature moment.

Now that can be checked off the list.

Webber drained a go-ahead 3-pointer in the closing seconds Saturday to propel the Lady Wolverines to a thrilling 32-31 victory over Glennallen in the third-place game of last week's Valdez Elks Tournament.

"It was a sweet Valentine victory," said Cordova girls coach Virginia Anderson.

Teal Webber finished with 12 points and sister Misa Webber scored 11. Angie Kelly chipped in with eight points and Angela Beedle controlled the boards with eight rebounds.

Anderson said the game against Glennallen was intense from tip off.

"I think we totally surprised the Panthers with our quick cuts to the basket as well as great passing and court vision," Anderson said of her team's 16-14 halftime lead.

The coach also credited her team's suffocating defense on Glennellan star player Jubliee Sutherland.

"We keyed on her for any out-of-bounds play, forcing quick shots," she said.

Still, Glennallen hung in there and eventually took a 31-29 lead by making two free throws with just a few seconds left. Things looked bleak for Cordova.

Until Teal Webber stepped in to save the day, dropping in a winning 3-pointer from the top of the key.

Teal Webber and Angie Kelly were both picked to the all-tournament team.

Cordova opened the tournament with a 51-45 win over Hutchison of Fairbanks, thanks in part to 17 points from Teal Webber. Misa Webber added 13 points and Karina Phillips reached double figures with 10.

In the semifinals, Valdez beat Cordova 45-37 despite a late charge in the fourth quarter.

In the end, though, Anderson was pleased with her team's performance.

"There were a lot of talented teams in the tournament and the girls really stepped up their level of play to compete," she said. "Every game was a learning experience for us and I'm glad we put a great game together to get the victory against Glennallen.

"The girls were really impressed when I told them we were undefeated in Aurora Conference play."
