The deadline to submit public comments regarding a critical habitat designation for Cook Inlet belugas is Wednesday, March 3.

According to a written statement from a spokesperson with Nunamta Aulukestai (Caretakers of Our Lands) the Alaska Miner's Association already submitted comments to NOAA saying that Iniskin Bay should not be designated as critical habitat for endangered belugas because Pebble Partnership needs to build a port there in Cook Inlet.

The Cook Inlet Keeper [http://www.inletkeeper.org/watershedWatch/beluga.htm]organization has spotted belugas in Iniskin Bay and encourages people to write comments in support of the designation.

Public comments can be submitted online [http://www.regulations.gov]; reference to RIN 0648-AX50.
