There has been growing concern among those who fish commercially for halibut to do something about the amount of halibut caught incidentally and then discarded in other fisheries as the resource continues to be in decline. Jennifer Gibbins/The Cordova Times
Federal fisheries managers meeting in Seattle Feb.1-7 were scheduled to take a small step toward incidental catch of halibut, in the wake of a decision by the International Pacific Halibut Commissioner on Jan. 28 to cut 2012 catch limits to 33,540,000 pounds.
