$3.49 per pound. I gasped internally at the price even as I reached for the fragrant fruit. I'm pretty much immune to Alaskan grocery sticker shock, but paying over a dollar for one small apple was an extravagance. It goes against my instincts as we try to eat sustainably here in our remote, agriculture-free part of the world. But this wasn't any ordinary apple.
