The Barrow Whalers caught the ACS Lions on a hot day at the 3A Championship, Saturday at the Sullivan Arena.
The Whalers lost the title to the Lions in a whooping 54-34 with a 23 point Lion’s lead in the fourth quarter of the game.
A combination of disadvantage in height and a bunch of missed shots appeared to have gotten to the whalers who lost momentum halfway into the game.
Jennifer Martelle scored 11 of the team’s 34 points, the only player scoring in the double digits.
“They (Lions) are a good team, they are tall and athletic,” said Whalers Coach Ryan Myers.
“We were hoping to catch them on a cold night, but they were hot and they whooped us bad,” he said.
“Next year they will basically have the same team. We will have to practice hard and hope to get another attack it.”
Anchorage Christian’s Anna Simmers had 18 points and her sister Debbiey Simmers, 11.
