Visiting coach to teach skills at basketball camp

Registration open for next week’s sessions

Registration is now open for Cordova Amateur Youth Athletics Corporation’s basketball camp, which starts next week.

David Evans, the head coach at Lone Peak High School in Alpine, Utah, will be coaching the “elite camp” for second-graders through high school seniors. Some Cordova High School boys attended a Lone Peak basketball camp earlier this summer, CAYAC says.

The two schools have similar fast break offensive styles and the drills, skills and conditioning covered in that camp fit in well with what Cordova teams already practice.
“This camp will cover the fundamental skill development, strength and condition, and nutrition for the older kids, as well as the base fundamentals,” CAYAC says.
Second through fifth graders will work on basic skill development for ball handling, passing, catching and shooting.

To add to the fun, the basketball camp will also include one-on-one, three-on-three, free throw and 3-point contests.

Registration forms are available at Bitarki Rec Center and GCI, or on the first day of camp at the high school gymnasium. The camp costs $35 for elementary students, $50 for junior high and $65 for high school students. The camp begins Tuesday and runs through Friday. Sessions are an hour-and-a-half for the younger participants and two hours for older students.
