Law & Order: Aug. 5-11

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police Department between 8-5-16 thru 8-11-16. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of Law.

AUGUST 5, Friday: 

3:09 a.m. Caller reported that an individual was in their residence and that they were refusing to leave. Kory Eknes, age 25, of Snohomish WA, was arrested for domestic violence assault 4. 3:31 p.m. CCMC requested a medical transport to mile 13 airport. Ambulance responded and provided transport.

AUGUST 6, Saturday: 

2:55 p.m. Caller reported a woman and her child had approached them stating they were walking on the sidewalk and a man had yelled at them while sitting in a vehicle and when he opened the door a beer can had fallen out. Officer patrolled the area, noticed the vehicle and after a man had got out and walked off.

AUGUST 9, Tuesday: 

8:20 a.m. An individual came to the station to report that the grassy field had been driven on and that there were tracks. Officer was notified. 6:34 p.m. Caller reporting a fire coming from a trailer. Officer and Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. 11:25 p.m. Cordova Police, Fire, and EMS units responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle accident on First street near the Cordova Ferry Terminal. Investigation revealed a pickup driven by JohnDavid Stimson, age 19, of Cordova, AK was traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle. Enrique Zamudio, age 18, of Cordova, AK who was the passenger in the vehicle and was injured in the crash, was transported to the Cordova Community Medical Center where he died a short time later. Stimson was arrested and transported to the Cordova Jail on several charges. The investigation is still ongoing.

AUGUST 10, Wednesday: 

2:35 p.m. Caller reported that a group of people were shooting fireworks off in city limits. Officer responded. 1:01 p.m. Hospital requested a medical transport to the airport. Ambulance crew responded and provided transport. 4:30 p.m. Caller reported that their vehicle had been broken into and items were missing. Incident is under investigation.

AUGUST 11, Thursday: 

12:18 a.m. Caller reported seeing an individual fall into the ocean at the harbor. Man was out of water prior to Officers arrival and walked back to their residence that was close by. 8:11 a.m. Officer reported a disabled vehicle in the road. Officer stood by vehicle until it was moved. 10:21 a.m. Caller reported that their friend was hurt and required an ambulance. Ambulance and officer responded but the patient refused transportation. 2:11 a.m. caller reported a loose dog. Officer responded and brought the dog to the pound for safekeeping.  10:37 p.m. Caller reported that they needed police assistance in retrieving some items from a household. Officer responded and was able to retrieve items.

NOTES FROM CORDOVA DMV:

DMV HOURS:  Tuesday – Thurs from 8am to 3:30pm unless otherwise posted.  Motorcycle testing is still available, weather permitting. DMV has moved to 602 Railroad Ave.  Payments now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations, citations.
