@ YOUR LIBRARY: Author Tom Kizzia coming to Cordova for writers workshop

ct-9-16-your-library-book-coverThe Cordova Public Library, Cordova Book Club and Cordova Arts and Pageants are joining together to sponsor a Writers Workshop with Alaskan author Tom Kizzia. The event will be held in the Cordova Center at Community Room A from 7-9 pm on September 29. There is a $25 registration fee.

Tom Kizzia traveled widely in in rural Alaska as a reporter for the Anchorage Daily News.  His work has appeared in the New Yorker, The Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post, and on CNN. He is a former Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University and a graduate of Hampshire College. His stories about the Pilgrim Family won a President’s Award from McClatchy Newspapers. His first book, The Wake of Unseen Object, was named on of the best non-fiction books about Alaska by the State Historical Society.

Here’s a review of Mr. Kizzia’s latest work. “Pilgrim’s Wilderness is not a book — it’s a powerful magnet, and once you begin you will not be able to pull yourself away. This spellbinding, shocking, and, yes, inspirational story of a family’s journey into the heart of darkness delivers the raw power and revelatory truth of a Scorsese film. Except better, because every word is true.”   — Daniel Coyle, author of The Secret Race and The Talent Code.
