Women of the World coming to Cordova Oct. 18

Cordova Arts and Pageants will present Women of the World, an international world music ensemble based in Boston, at the North Star Theatre in Cordova on Oct. 18.

Tickets for the concert, which begins at 7 p.m., will be for sale at the door, for $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and $45 for a family.

The group includes Ayumi Ueda, a Berklee College of Music alumna from Japan, who sought several years ago to create an ensemble of artists from all over the world to create music for peace.

In 2008, Ueda was joined by Giorgia Renosto, of Italy; Annette Philip, of India, and Deborah Pierre, of the United States and Haiti, to complete the ensemble.

The award-winning quartet performs original and traditional folk music with a contemporary twist in 29 languages.

In addition to their community concert the group will share their talents at a Cordova school assembly on October 19 and conduct an adult master class.
