Avalanche Center plans snow safety summit

Knowing how to be safe in snow is a necessity in Alaska, and to that end, the Alaska Avalanche Information Center will hold its annual Snow Safety Summit and the Southcentral Alaska Avalanche Workshop in Anchorage Nov. 3-4.

The agenda calls for holding the snow safety summit at the BP energy center in Anchorage from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 3, followed by the workshop at Alaska Pacific University Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Avalanche Awareness activities will continue on Nov. 5 at the Anchorage Public Library, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library event will offer an opportunity to talk with those who provide recreational products, education and work in the snow safety industry.

Registration is required for the snow safety summit. Information on registration, the summit and other events is online at www.alaskasnow.org

The Alaska Avalanche Information Center is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to reducing injuries and saving lives, by providing snow advisories, forecasts, observations, education, consulting, research and professional development.

The goals of this year’s summit include continuing to collaborate to establish a solid network of services, looking at ways technology is changing snow forecasting and information sharing, and setting new goals and benchmarks for coming years.
