Taking the court with only seven players game after game has to be a challenge.
Tossing in a lengthy road trip has to make it even more so.
Last week the Lady Wolverines rode the ferry to Whittier, and the travelled via bus to Palmer and Nenana through some tough winter conditions. On Jan. 26, they faced the JV girls from 4A Palmer. The young Lady Moose held CHS to 3 points in the first quarter, and 4 points in both the second and third quarters, enroute to a 44-24 win. Edrea Navarro led Cordova with 7 points.
Next stop was Nenana for a pair of 2A Interior Conference games on Jan. 27-28. In the Friday game, the Lady Lynx jumped out to a 13-2 first quarter lead and outscored Cordova 25-5 in the final period to win 59-27. Riley Butler led Cordova with 10 points and 7 rebounds.
Cordova, which has struggled to put four solid quarters together often this season, trailed 25-20 at halftime in the Saturday game. The third quarter was their undoing, as the Lynx outscored them 11-1 in that 8-minute stretch. The Lynx prevailed by a 55-37 final. Butler and Leigha Peebles topped Cordova scoring with 10 points apiece.
The Lady Wolverines are now 6-8 overall for the season, with a 3-3 record in Conference play. They will be on the road for the next two weekend, facing Glennallen for a pair of games on Feb. 3-4, and then returning to Valdez the following weekend for the 40th Annual Valdez Elks tournament on Feb. 9-11.
