Law & Order: Feb. 3-9

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police Department between 2-3-17 thru 2-10-17. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

FEBRUARY 3, Friday: 

9:12 p.m. Caller reported his brother was being unruly. Officer responded finding both brothers yelling obscenities at each other and were highly intoxicated. Officer separated the parties for the night.

FEBRUARY 4, Saturday: 

2:22 p.m. Caller reported a motor vehicle accident at Ilanka Clinic with no injuries. Officer responded to the scene and started an investigation.  6:20 p.m. Caller reported the GCI pedestal by the old library was hit and damaged. Officer responded and a case is under investigation. 7:39 p.m. Caller reported his brother was intoxicated and assaulting his girlfriend. Officer responded finding just the two brothers at the house yelling at each other, both intoxicated. Officer separated the parties. Officer was called back to the house with a report saying that one of the brothers is going to shoot the other and the other brother pulled a gun on the caller. Officer arrested Gary Hansen, age 57 of Cordova Alaska, for Disorderly Conduct and Misconduct involving a weapon 4. And Larry Hansen, age 54 of Cordova Alaska, for Disorderly Conduct.

FEBRUARY 5, Sunday:

3:06 p.m. Caller requested an ambulance for a skier who hurt his knee. An ambulance responded and transported the skier to CCMC.

FEBRUARY 6, Monday: 

10:49 a.m. Caller requested a welfare check on an employee. Officer found the employee reporting she is fine. 11:45 a.m. Caller from Texas requested a welfare check on his daughter after receiving alarming text messages. Officer responded finding the callers young granddaughter got ahold of her smart-watch and sent the messages by accident.

FEBRUARY 7, Tuesday: 

6:43 p.m. Caller reported his vehicle slid and hit the payment drop box in the Civic Center’s parking lot. Officer responded finding damage and opened an investigation.

FEBRUARY 8, Wednesday: 

9:00 a.m. Officer arrested Karen Chappell, age 54 of Cordova, Alaska on a warrant for Failure to Appear to Court.

FEBRUARY 9, Thursday: 

8:00 a.m. Caller requested an officer to stand by so the caller can return an item back to the owner. Officer responded and stood by. 1:09 p.m. Caller reported that a black lab has been running on the 13-mile state tarmac. Officer spoke with the owner of the dog and he needs to control it. If he does not, he could receive a citation. 5:06 p.m. Caller reported she lost control of her vehicle due to the roads and collided with another vehicle. Officer responded and provided both parties with forms and explained how to use them. 6:03 p.m. Caller reported a vehicle lost control and hit a fire hydrant. Officer responded finding no damage on the hydrant or the vehicle.

DMV HOURS:  Tuesday – Thurs from 8am to 3:30pm unless otherwise posted.  Motorcycle testing is still available, weather permitting. DMV has moved to 602 Railroad Ave.  Payments now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations, citations.
