It’s March Madness again for the Cordova Wolverines

It’s state tournament time, and once again the Cordova Wolverines are at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage for March Madness, Version 2017.

As runner-ups from the 2A Interior Conference, the CHS boys played Unalakleet, the No. 1 team from Northwest Alaska, in a game that was played yesterday, March 16, at 3:30 pm.

Other first round pairings had Unalaska versus  Bristol Bay at 8 a.m., Glennallen versus Metlakatla at 9:30 am; and Petersburg against Tikigaq (Pt. Hope) at 5 p.m.

The winner of the Cordova-Unalakleet contest advances to play in the semi-finals today at 5:15 against the winner of the Petersburg-Tikigaq contest;  the losers of those games squared off at 9:30 am today.

The championship and third place games will be played on Saturday.

Cordova played Unalakleet back in December in the Rally the Regions tournament at Anchorage, losing a run-and-gun affair by a 86-76 final.

Last year, in their first year of 2A play, Cordova also made it to State, that time as Conference Champions.  CHS topped Tikigaq 76-56 in the first round, lost to eventual State Champs Unalaska 69-55 in the semi-finals, and defeated Unalakleet 69-55 in the game for third place.
