Museum Memories: Oct. 28, 2017

This classic photo of First Street in Cordova takes us back a few years. Unpaved streets, wooden sidewalks and power lines still above ground not to mention some classic cars add to the intrigue of this photo.

Many of the buildings pictured on the east side of the street are long gone, destroyed by fires over the years, most notable the 1963 fire which devastated an entire city block.

This photo came from the archives and collections of the Cordova Historical Society housed within the museum. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Join us for the opening of our new travelling exhibit in the Copper River Gallery, “Harry Potter’s Magical World.” Opening reception 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 for all kinds of Potter related snacks, activities and wand dueling!
