Suspect arrested after man shot, wounded on boat in Sitka

Nathan Leask is being held on $100,000 bail.

SITKA, Alaska — Alaska authorities have arrested a man accused of going onto a boat in Sitka, starting a fight with a man and a woman and opening fire — hitting the main in the leg. The shooting prompted authorities to tell people to stay indoors after a report that a man was seen with a gun near a school.

Nathan Leask, 35, was arrested on Saturday about an hour after the shooting, Sitka police said.

Officers arrived at the harbor to find an adult male with a gunshot wound to his leg and blunt force trauma to the head. A woman was also said to be present, but was uninjured.
Leask was arrested about an hour later inside a house. Before he was found, the report of the armed man near a school prompted the evacuation of the school.

Leask was charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree assault. He was arraigned and was being held on $100,000 bail.
