Historical Society history program

The Cordova Historical Society’s November history program at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Copper River Gallery in the Cordova Center features the story of Doctor William H. Chase. Chase is Cordova’s multi-faceted character, which served as doctor, mayor, big game hunter, pioneer and more. Please join us and learn more about one of Cordova’s historical characters.

Basket auction

The Cordova Community Medical Center is holding a basket silent auction to raise funds for the “Long Term Care — Van Fund.” Stop by CCMC’s main reception area from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until Nov. 23, to bid on baskets.

Call for artists

The Copper River Gallery is hosting a “Winter White” themed group art show open to artists age 17 and older, and open to all media. Limit three entries per artist. Photography exhibition at Reluctant Fisherman

An exhibition of photographer Mark Hoover’s work will be on display in the dining room at the Reluctant Fisherman Inn’s heART wall through the end of the month.

Christmas Tree Lighting & Holiday Kickoff

The Cordova Chamber of Commerce presents the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Kickoff event 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1, in front of the chamber’s office on Main Street. Celebrate the start of the season and see Santa light the Cordova holiday tree, enjoy hot chocolate, and sing Christmas carols with family, friends and neighbors.

2017 Holiday Bazaar

The City of Cordova Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to attend the annual Holiday Bazaar from 6-10 p.m. Dec. 1, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 2 at Mt. Eccles Elementary School. More than 30 local vendors will showcase handcrafted artisanal goods, fine art, photography and more. There will be a food court and pictures with Santa. Food pantry services

The Little Chapel is administering Salvation Army extension food pantry services. People needing assistance can pick up food on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Little Chapel. In an emergency at other times, call the Little Chapel at 907-424-3629. Native Village of Eyak administers food distribution on behalf of the Food Bank of Alaska.
