Its doors on Main Street are closed now, but Cordova’s historic drug store pharmacy dating back to 1908, has new digs inside the Cordova Community Medical Center.

Through recent agreement between CCMC and pharmacist David O’Brien, the medical center purchase the inventory of the Cordova Drugstore Pharmacy, which opened at its new location on Dec. 11.

Much thought time and energy went into the move. As a result of the recent health needs assessment, which many Cordova residents participated in, it became apparent that having a pharmacy at the medical center was in the best needs of the community.

The agreement was the result of a cooperative effort between Cordova Drug, CCMC and city officials.

Funding for the purchase was approved at the city council’s meeting on Dec. 8.

“The parties involved worked extremely hard to develop a structure that would continue to provide the community with excellent and cost-effective pharmacy services,” said Scot Mitchell, chief executive officer of CCMC. “It’s been extremely rewarding to be involved in such a collaborative process.

“We are all very grateful to the O’Briens and their years of service to the Cordova community and consider it an honor to have that trust placed in us at CCMC.”
