Cordova Center will honor memory of librarian Sally Campbell

Plans are moving forward for landscaping on the upper and lower levels of the Cordova Center , to create a mini rainforest floor, and a memorial garden in honor of longtime librarian Sally Campbell.

Staff at the library have designed and dedicate an area with no big rocks in pace outside the library side of the building for “Sally’s Garden.”

Next spring, according to a city press release, an organized workday will take place when the weather allows, and volunteers will help plant indigenous Native species of ferns, dwarf bunchberry, blueberries, and mosses in and among the large rocks.

Plans include all species that are found locally and will require minimal care. Flagpoles are being ordered and will be put in place as well as interpretive signage.

The Friends of the Library are raising funds to purchase a garden bench with a plaque. Because Sally loved to feed the birds, bird feeders and a hummingbird feeder will be installed. A portion of the garden will be a play area for children complete with a miniature fairy garden. Container beds will be the home for the vegetables grown by the Summer Reading Program kids and other decorative flowers will brighten the area.

If you would like to contribute to the Sally’s Garden Fund, please stop by the library and visit with any of the staff.
