The Valdez girls swept Cordova in the season opener for both squads here on Dec. 15-16.

Led by 6-0 senior Bobbie Mott, the Lady Bucs prevailed 57-14 and 60-27. The returning 3A Aurora Conference All-Star had 14 points in the first game and 17 in the rematch.

With only eight players, and the tallest 5-7 junior Nailea Martinez, who missed most of last season with a knee injury, the Lady Wolverines played hard from start to finish, but were no match for the deep and talented Buccaneers.

Jieller Tabara led Cordova with 7 points in the first game; Abby Bourgeois was tops with 10 in the second.  Bourgeois and Edrea Navarro each had a pair of three pointers the second night.

The Lady Wolverines will travel to the Rally the Regions tournament in Anchorage on Dec. 27- 30, and then play their next home games here on Jan. 18-20 in the Cordova Tipoff tournament.
