Despicable Me 3

The Cordova Iceworm Committee presents two showings of Despicable Me 3 at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29 at North Star Theatre in the Cordova Center.

Cordova Piano Celebration

Cordova Arts and Pageants is hosting a Cordova Piano Celebration at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 at the North Star Theatre at the Cordova Center. The community is invited to celebrate the arrival of their new Shimmel concert grand piano, with music by The Dan Mac (Jazz) Band from Anchorage, featuring The U.S. Air Force Band vocalist John “Pypes” Teamer, and local performers ringing hand-bells, doing ballet, singing, and performing on a variety of instruments. Baked goods will be available to purchase for New Year’s Eve. Admission is free; donations are greatly appreciated. All proceeds go toward paying for the new piano.

Rally the Regions Hardwood Classic

Rally Alaska presents the 3rd annual Rally the Regions Hardwood Classic Dec. 27-30 at Dimond High School in Anchorage. Participating high school basketball teams include Girls- Bristol Bay, Chugiak JV, Cordova, Craig, Lumen Christi, Unalakleet, Unalaska and West JV; and Boys- Bristol Bay, Cordova, Craig, Haines, Hooper Bay, Lumen Christi, Unalakleet and Unalaska. Holiday Closures or Schedule Changes

The Refuse Department will be closed Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. Monday collections will be made Tuesday, Jan. 2. The Library and Museum will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 2. City Administrative Office, the Harbormaster’s office and administrative offices for the Bidarki Recreation Center will be closed Monday, Jan. 1.

No Travellift services until Jan. 6

There will be no Travellift services for vessels through Jan. 6. The Port and Harbor Department thank vessel owners for their cooperation and apologize for the inconvenience.

Food pantry services

The Little Chapel is administering Salvation Army extension food pantry services. People needing assistance can pick up food on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Little Chapel. In an emergency at other times, call the Little Chapel at 907-424-3629. Native Village of Eyak administers food distribution on behalf of the Food Bank of Alaska.
