Every child in Cordova was invited to pick up a toy Dec. 22 from Toys for Tots at Mt. Eccles Elementary commons. The U.S. Marine Corps, Cordova School District administration and staff, and community volunteers, including Sandie Ponte, U.S. Coast Guard wives and the National Honor Society, made the project possible.

“There was a little boy who sat on Santa’s lap and told him, very specifically, what he wanted for Christmas,” said Kristy Andrew, director of budget and finance for Cordova School District. “The boy then went to get his wrapped gift. The toy he received was exactly the one he told Santa he wanted just moments earlier. ‘It’s a Christmas miracle!’ he said with a smile plastered across his face! Stories like this make my heart melt and are one of the biggest reasons I love being involved in Toys for Tots for Cordova’s kids.” Photo by Kristy Andrew/for The Cordova Times.
