Kids Night Out

The Cordova Coast Guard Spouses’ Association is hosting “Kids Night Out”, a free monthly movie night for children, at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26 at Mt. Eccles Elementary School. Children under the age of six need to be accompanied by someone 13 years or older. This month’s movie is “The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature.” Doors open at 6 p.m. and snacks will be available for purchase.

Plastic Recycling Event

Bring your clean plastics to the AC parking lot any time between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26 as part of a community recycling event hosted by The Copper River Watershed Project and AC Value Center. Reception honoring retiring Legislative Information Office staff

A reception will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29 at the LIO, former of First Street and Council Avenue, to honor Michelle Hahn O’Leary and Mimi Briggs for their decades of service to the Cordova LIO. The community is invited to attend. Snacks will be provided. Come visit with O’Leary, Briggs and the new LIO staff member, Nancy Bird.

Hidden Treasures: Sell, swap or give away

Hidden Treasures, an event where people can sell, swap or give away items, will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Christian Center (where HomePort is located). Set up begins at 9 a.m. with teardown to be completed by 2:30 p.m. Each person must be present to man their own table. All items not sold, swapped or given away must be taken with you when you leave. Aloha Iceworm

Cordova’s annual Iceworm Festival is scheduled for Jan. 27 through Feb. 3. Diabetes Self-Management Class

NVE is offering a Diabetes Self-Management Class for six weeks beginning Feb. 7 through March 14, meeting at the Wellness Center (the old DMV office). Participants will learn how to manage their diabetes, create action plans and communicate with their health care professionals. The class is open to diabetics and their caregivers and tribal and non-tribal members who are currently patients at Ilanka Medical Clinic. Participants will receive fresh produce every week they attend and if they attend all six classes will receive a monthly Full Circle box for one year. Winter White at Copper River Gallery

Gallery show “Winter White” featuring all local artists continues at The Copper River Gallery in the Cordova Center. The Cordova Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

Al-Anon returns to Cordova

Al-Anon meetings for friends and family of alcoholics will meet Monday nights at 7 p.m. at the Wellness Center (old DMV office). For more information, contact Katie at 907-965-5909.

Food pantry services

The Little Chapel is administering Salvation Army extension food pantry services. People needing assistance can pick up food on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Little Chapel. In an emergency at other times, call the Little Chapel at 907-424-3629. Native Village of Eyak administers food distribution on behalf of the Food Bank of Alaska.
