Glennallen takes pair from Lady Wolverines

The visiting Glennallen Panthers topped Cordova 32-31 and 44-25 in Iceworm Festival high school basketball action here on Feb. 2-3.

In the first game, the seven-girl Lady Wolverine squad led 8-5 at the quarter, 19-12 at halftime, and 24-18 after three stanzas, before being outscored 14-7 in the last eight minutes of play. Abby Bourgeois led Cordova with 10 points; Gloria Jacobsen topped Glennallen with 11.

Glennallen jumped out to a 14-2 lead after one quarter in the second game and held a 24-6 advantage at halftime. Bourgeois and Jacobsen were again top scorers for their respective squads, with 10 and 16 points respectively.

The Cordova girls now stand at 6-7 overall, with a 2-4 record in conference action.  They were scheduled to face Delta in the opening round of the 41st Valdez Valentine’s Tournament on Feb. 8. Other teams in the three-day tournament are North Pole, Galena, Bethel, Eielson, Seward and Valdez.
