Heidi Renae Todd, 4, found in Alabama

Support and well-wishes flooded in from families around town after news broke on the evening of Feb. 13 of a mother’s brutal beating and disappearance of her 4-year-old daughter, Heidi Renae Todd, in Charleston, S.C.

Heidi Renae Todd was found in a vehicle Wednesday in Alabama after her initial disappearance was reported at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13.

The driver remains at large after fleeing the scene in a blue sedan with an Illinois tag.

The Todd family lived in Cordova for roughly two years and were beloved in the community.

Cordova resident Erica Thompson-Clark began a GoFundMe page for the family. “I wanted to support them in any way that I could from a distance,” she said as a fellow Coast Guard wife and mom.

The page raised $3,635 in 16 hours.

“I thought a GoFundMe would work because local Cordovan’s who may have known them or their kids while they lived here could donate to it, as well as people who heard about it on the news,” she said.

People continued to share news updates via Facebook throughout the night and into the day on Feb. 14.

“The family was just super sweet, friendly and they enjoyed the scenic area of Cordova,” Grace Lee said. “Their kids participated in t-ball, where I got to know them a bit better as my son played with their daughter, Heidi. Heidi was so sweet and had a kind and shy demeanor. But when she hit the ball she ran as fast as her legs could carry her; and usually with the helmet hanging low over her eyes as she was a petite girl,” Lee added.
