Cordova and its surrounding areas offer an array of recreational possibilities including skiing, hiking, picnicking, camping and berry picking, to name a few.

More than 90,000 acres of land in the Cordova area is owned by The Eyak Corp., formed in 1973. It is one of five Native village corporations located within the Chugach region.

“We encourage you to enjoy the outdoors with your friends and family,” said Angela Butler, general manager of the Cordova operations at The Eyak Corp. “If you do choose to recreate on Eyak Corporation land, we ask that you please fill out a land use permit.”

The land use permit is currently valid for 90 days on all TEC lands and is free of charge except for camping at the Cabin Lake Campground. A campground permit costs $10 per night.

“The land use permit is simply a courtesy; it is asking permission to use The Eyak Corporation’s land,” Butler said.

Permits can be picked up at The Eyak Corp., 901 Lefever St., or found online at Eyakcorporation.com.
