Fairbanks listed among most polluted areas

A new report from the American Lung Association lists the Fairbanks North Star Borough among the top 25 counties with the worst short-term particle pollution and ranks its 100,605 residents as those most at risk from this pollution in the nation.

According to the report, which was scheduled for release on April 17, more than four in every 10 people in the United States live in areas with unhealthful levels of either ozone or particle pollution, in all some 133.9 million Americans.

More people suffered unhealthy air in 2014-2016 than in the years covered by the 2017 report on years 2013-2015, when the total was 125 million people, but that was still far below the 166 million people impacted in 2012-2014, years covered in the 2016 report, the American Lung Association said in its State of the Air 2018 report.
