The Copper River Delta Shorebird festival kicks off Thursday, May 3, in Cordova. Here’s what you need to know to get in on the bird watching fun this weekend.

THURSDAY MAY 3

  • 8 a.m.–2 p.m.  Half-day tours with Auklet Charters. *
  • 5 p.m.–7 p.m. Banding Bonanza Kids’ Event in the Education Room at Cordova Center.
  • 7 p.m.–9 p.m. “The Painted Bird” and “Birds by Hand” gallery opening at the Copper River Gallery.
  • 8 p.m.–10 p.m. Shorebird Paint Night with Copper River Canvas at the Alaskan Hotel and Bar.*

FRIDAY MAY 4

  • 7 p.m.–9:30 p.m. Speakers: Kristine Sowl and Yenifer Diaz. A Wetland Interlude dance. Keynote address by Stephen Kress at North Star Theatre in the Cordova Center.
