In the wake of an above average snowpack and late spring storms, the Denali Highway is now open from Cantwell to the Parks Highway to Paxson on the Richardson Highway.

The Denali Highway was originally scheduled to open on May 15, but maintenance and operations crews with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities were delayed by weather conditions in removing snow, thawing culverts and completing repairs along the 135-mile road until May 18.

Travelers are advised to visit 511.alaska.gov or call 511 for the latest road condition and construction information, as conditions in some areas are still rough. Prepare for remote travel by carrying extra food and water, seasonally appropriate clothing and a first aid kit. Seasonal weight restrictions are in effect.
