Public comment sought on winter ferry schedule

Public comment is being sought through June 13 on the Alaska Marine System’s proposed winter ferry schedule for October through April 2019.

The draft schedule is based on funding levels for fiscal year 2019 and established community service needs and events.

The Cordova Legislative Information Office and the Cordova Chamber of Commerce issued special notices on the draft schedule, highlighting that there will be a gap in service this winter from Nov. 18 until Dec. 11.

The proposed service for Prince William Sound includes the FVF Fairweather servicing Cordova four days a week from Oct. 1 to Nov. 18. After the three-week gap, the M/V Aurora will return for the remainder of the winter and spring of 2019.

Scheduled service is similar to last year’s service, and maintains vessel regulatory and safety standards, AMHS officials said.

The draft schedule is available online with accompanying documents at www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/share/schedule/considerations.pdf
