Calling all heroes: Do you know a local youth who is making a positive difference in the community?

Alaska Communications and Boys & Girls Clubs-Alaska are seeking nominations through July 20 for their 2018 Summer of Heroes program.

The program, now in its eighth year, aims to promote awareness and support for youth development programs throughout the state.

The Summer of Heroes program recognizes young heroes between the ages of six and 18 who are making a difference in their local Alaska communities. Such acts could include someone who has volunteered or raised significant funds for a cause, made a difference in school through education or sports, inspired others to take action, made a significant contribution to his or her community and/or has considered others’ needs before their own.

Any youth who meet the criteria can self-nominate or be nominated by someone they know.

The 2018 final heroes will each receive a $1,500 scholarship and special recognition in their local community.

The nomination period runs from May 1 to July 20.
