The Alaska Department of Fish & Game stocked 107,441 Chinook salmon in the Fleming Spit Lagoon in Cordova on Thursday, June 7, 2018. This year the salmon smolt weighed an average of 0.5 ounces and measured on average 4.2 inches. ADF&G plans to stock salmon at the Fleming Spit Lagoon from 2018 to 2022, with an objective of producing a return of approximately 200 Chinook salmon to the Cordova area for harvest by boat and shore-based anglers in Orca Inlet. According to the ADF&G stocking plan, “the primary purpose of this program is to create terminal Chinook salmon fisheries near communities where angling opportunities for Chinook salmon are limited or nonexistent.”
