A six-day Marine Safety Instructor Training workshop will be held Sept. 24-29 by the Alaska Marine Safety Education Association at the Public Safety Training Academy in Sitka.

The intensive train-the-trainer course will prepare individuals to teach cold-water survival procedures, use of marine safety equipment, and vessel safety drills. Hands-on experience in survival equipment use and procedures will be included.

The course is recommended for anyone who wants to provide cold-water survival and survival, shore-side survival or marine safety instruction, like the U.S. Coast Guard-required drill conductor certification for commercial fishermen. Participants will be prepared to teach AMSEA’s U.S. Coast Guard approve Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor training, pending authorization from the Coast Guard.

The workshop is free to commercial fishermen upon approval, thanks to support from the Coast Guard. For others the cost is $875 for AMSEA members and $995 for non-members. Register online at www.amsea.org
