4H Music Camp concert

A student concert will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, July 20, wrapping up the week-long Cordova 4H Music Camp at Mt. Eccles Elementary School.

Free Square Dance

A square dance will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 at the Pioneer with old-time musicians Scotty Meyer, Pete Bowers, and Patty Hamre. Donations appreciated for the 4H Music Camp. For more information, call Belle Mickelson at 907-424-5143.

Nuuciq Spirit Camp

Children and elders of the Chugach people will gather at Nuuciq Island to learn about their history and culture. Camp Session 1 is July 15-22, Session 2 is July 22-29 and Visitor Day is scheduled for Thursday, July 26. Activities include gathering and preparing subsistence foods, language lessons, woodcarving, beading, traditional singing and dancing. Hidden Treasures: sell, swap, or give away

Hidden Treasures, an event where people can sell, swap or give away items, will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 at the Christian Center (where HomePort is located). Set up begins at 9 a.m. with teardown to be completed by 2:30 p.m. Each person must be present at their own table. All items not sold, swapped or given away must be removed during the teardown. Neighborhood Bible Time

All children and teens are welcome for Neighborhood Bible Time from 9:30 a.m. to noon July 23-27 at the MorningStar Independent Baptist Church. Children not potty trained must be accompanied by an adult. For more information call 907-424-3501.

Fisher-Friends Kid’s Club

Kindergarten through sixth graders can attend the Fisher-Friends Kid’s Club for games, crafts, stories of the sea, and snacks from 9 a.m. to noon July 23-27 at the Multi Use Field by Odiak Camper Park. Juneau Public Health Nurse Services

Juneau Public Health Nurse Services will be in Cordova July 23-27 for back-to-school immunizations, well child exams, health education, Narcan kits, and sexually transmitted infection screens at the clinic across from the Ilanka Cultural Center located at 110 Nicholoff Way. To book an appointment call 907-424-4547 or 907-465-1245. Walk-ins are welcomed, limited evenings, on a space available basis.

Celebrating Kay Sherman

A celebration of life for Kay Sherman will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 28 at the Cordova Center Atrium. Please join Kay’s family to share memories and enjoy some of her favorite things: coffee, chocolate, and quality time with family and friends.

Women on Target

The Cordova Trap & Gun Club is hosting an all-women rifle safety and fundamentals class during the last weekend of July. There will be two all-day class dates to choose from: Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29. Only 10 spaces available for each day. Serenity Garden Spruce Up

In dedication to Alice Reilly, the Serenity Garden located behind Cordova Electric Cooperative will be getting a spruce up from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, August 3. Helpers are asked to bring garden tools and flower bulbs if they have any to share.

Hunter orientation

An optional hunter orientation meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6 at the Cordova Ranger District office in the old courtroom on the 3rd floor of the U.S. Forest Service building. For those whose names were drawn, permits will then be available at the front desk of the U.S. Forest Service building, 612 2nd St., after Aug. 6. Summer Lunch Art Program

The Cordova Family Resource Center is offering a free Summer Lunch Art Program Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to noon for ages 2 to 7 and noon to 1 p.m. for ages 8 to 13. Join them at the CFRC/BIONIC Youth Center on Main Street for art projects and a bag lunch.

Summer Reading Program

Cordova’s Summer Reading Program is at 1 p.m. every Wednesday at The Cordova Public Library. Sign up at the library to enjoy workshops for ages 5 and up. 

Al-Anon in Cordova

Al-Anon for friends and family of alcoholics meets 7 p.m. Mondays at the Wellness Center (old DMV office). For more information, contact Katie at 907-965-5909.

Food pantry services

The Little Chapel is administering Salvation Army extension food pantry services. People needing assistance can pick up food on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Little Chapel. In an emergency at other times, call the Little Chapel at 907-424-3629. Native Village of Eyak administers food distribution on behalf of the Food Bank of Alaska.
