AMSEA offers water safety course for educators

Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer a web-based course on cold water safety and survival Sept. 17 through Dec. 23 for educators and others working with youths.

The course, which requires online discussion, include assignments to be submitted online and graded throughout the semester.

The course focuses on implementing AMEA’s Surviving Outdoor Adventures curriculum for use in the classroom, pool, open water and other settings. Completion of the course, plus a teaching practicum, qualifies the participant to check out safety and survival gear, as well as other teaching aids from AMSEA’s lending library collection. A practicum can be scheduled on an individual basis after the class.

Participants who complete the course will earn two graduate level academic credits from the University of Alaska Southeast.
