NOAA fisheries names two alternate IPHC commissioners

NOAA Fisheries has announced the reappointment of Bob Alverson, director of the Fishing Vessel Owners Association in Seattle, and the appointment of Richard Yamada, president of the Alaska Charter Association, to U.S. seats on the International Pacific Halibut Commission.

The alternate commissioner appointments run through Jan. 31, 2019.

Alverson fills the seat reserved for a Washington resident and Yamada the seat reserved for an Alaska resident.

Yamada, the owner of Shelter Lodge in the Juneau area, replaces Linda Behnken, a commercial fisheries industry veteran and executive director of the Alaska Longline Fisheries Association in Sitka.

The alternative commissioner appointments were made by the State Department, in consultation with the office of the Secretary of Commerce.
