Law & Order: Sept. 14-20

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police Department between 9-14-18 thru 9-20-18. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

SEPTEMBER 14, Friday:

9:09 a.m. Caller reported that the shed that he keeps his trash in had been destroyed by a bear. 1:24 p.m. Caller reported that people have been moving the rocks at the Hartney Bay camp ground that keep vehicles from getting close to the burn pits. 2:39 p.m. Officer forwarded a report to dispatch about a woman who had been receiving threatening phone calls. 9:15 p.m. Caller reported his daughter was behind the high school and had a gun pointed at her. Officer responded and is currently investigating.

SEPTEMBER 15, Saturday:

5:24 a.m. Individual came to the station to report that he had had a large sum of cash stolen from him. 8:19 a.m. David Burch, age 32 of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested for Violation of Conditions of Release. 8:50 a.m. Caller requested an officer to conduct a welfare check on a friend who had just stormed off on a scooter. 8:50 a.m. Caller reported a motor vehicle accident with an injured man. Ambulance responded transporting the man to CCMC. 9:06 a.m. Caller reported an individual that had a stroke. Ambulance responded and transported the patient to CCMC. 10:33 p.m. Caller reported a vehicle recklessly driving on Orca Rd. Officer responded to the area but was unable to locate the vehicle.

SEPTEMBER 16, Sunday:

6:38 a.m. Caller reported a young male walking behind CCMC and felt it was suspicious. Officer responded to the area and contacted the individual. 6:24 p.m. Caller reported a vehicle fire at the gravel pit. The Fire Department responded to the area and put out the fire.

SEPTEMBER 17, Monday:

5:00 p.m. Individual came to the station to report a hit and run accident. The incident is currently under investigation.

SEPTEMBER 18, Tuesday:

11:52 a.m. Caller reported a possible break in at the old elementary school house. Officers responded and found evidence of entry, but no trespasser was found.

SEPTEMBER 19, Wednesday:

6:27 a.m. Caller reported a bear in the road that appeared to have been hit by a car. Caller dispatched the bear and brought it to the Alaska State Trooper post. 8:00 a.m. Caller reported somebody dumping junk vehicles in front of their property. Officer responded and spoke with the registered owners of the vehicles. 1:21 p.m. Caller reported receiving disturbing texts from an un-familiar number. An officer met with the complainant and took down the information.  This incident is currently under investigation. 

SEPTEMBER 20, Thursday:

1:45 p.m. Dispatch received a complaint about a dog that was continuously barking. An officer responded to the area but was unable to locate the dog and the responsible party.

NOTES FROM CORDOVA DMV:

DMV HOURS:  8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday unless otherwise posted. Motorcycle testing is still available, weather permitting. DMV has moved to 602 Railroad Ave.  Payments now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations, and citations.
