Gov. Bill Walker has declared October as Alaska Seafood Month, and Oct. 25 as Commercial Fishing Day.
The announcement comes from the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, the association whose mission is to boost the economic value of Alaska seafood.
ASMI will be announcing winners of its Alaska Commercial Fishing Photo Contest, and sharing ways that consumers, home cooks, fishermen and others can celebrate October, which is also National Seafood Month, with healthy seasonal recipes.
In addition, there will be dozens of promotions and discounts available at retailers nationwide, ASMI officials said.
