Alaska Legal services get technology grant

Alaska Legal Services Corp. will receive a $169,879 technology initiative grant to update and enhance its electronic referrals system, to aid in communicating with people needing civil legal assistance online.

The announcement came from Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, who said the investment would ensure that ALSC can carry out its mission to support Alaskans navigating the legal system.

ALSC will use the grant to enhance the electronic client referrals system for states piloting Legal Navigator Portals – an initiative launched by LSC, Microsoft and Pro Bono Net to direct people with civil legal needs to the most appropriate forms of assistance.

The grant will help project teams with ALSC and the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii to work to simplify the process through which those seeking legal information access civil legal assistance online.

ALSC was one of 24 recipients of 2018 technology initiative grant funds totaling over $3 million.
