ANB/ANS backs Begich

The Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Native Sisterhood have endorsed Democrat Mark Begich for governor at the conclusion of their four-day Grand Camp in Ketchikan, with the endorsement championed by Camp 2 from Juneau.

“Begich has always supported Alaska Natives and understands the issues facing our people in Southeast Alaska,” said ANB Grand President Joe Williams of Ketchikan on Oct. 23.

“He recognizes the rights Native people and ANB/ANS have fought for over the past 100 years, and we know as governor he will continue to be our partner,” Williams said.

ANS Grand President Paulette M. Moreno also voiced support.

“We look towards elected leadership that will be mindful of the power of the Native vote and stand ready for action that will respect those that have cared for Alaska for time immemorial,” she said.

Begich addressed the Grand Camp in Ketchikan earlier, emphasizing the need for Alaskans to come together to create a strong path for Alaska’s future.

Begich also received endorsements this past week from the Alaska AFL-CIO affiliated unions and United Tribes of Bristol Bay.
