Grace Christian sweeps Cordova Jr. High

Deep junior high squads from 3A Anchorage Christian swept a series against Cordova at home on Oct. 26-27.

In girls B action, Grace prevailed 28-2 and 19-9. Jheryel Itliong was top Cordova scorer in the second game with 6 points. Grace won the A games 34-10 and 36-0. Schaunessy Schandel led Cordova in the first contest with 3 points.

New Cordova junior high coach Heather Richardson was proud of her squads’ effort.

“They played really hard, from start to finish,” she said. “I thought they were great. The hustle and intensity never stopped.”

Nor did the enthusiasm of the Cordova fans, who cheered wildly during the helter-skelter action throughout.

In boys B play, Grace won 33-0 and 35-12. John Itliong was top Cordova scorer in the second game with 5 points. Arthur Adams led Cordova with 7 points in the first game and 11 in the second as Grace swept the boys A games 54-13 and 53-18.

Cordova plays their final home junior high games of the season here on November 1-3 versus Redington and Fronteras, both from the MatSu Valley. The games start at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1; 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, and 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3.

The Cordova squads will close out their season at a tournament in Valdez.
