Folks planning air travel to holiday destinations will find their trip a more pleasant experience by following some travel tips offered by officials at Fairbanks International Airport.

Check flight status before leaving for the airport and also sign up for flight alerts on your cell phone.

Arrive at the airport two hours prior to the scheduled departure.

Visit Transportation Security Administration’s travel tips website, https://www.tsa.gov/travel/travel-tips and the “What can I Bring?” website, https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/all, to see what items are allowed or not allowed in carry-on and checked luggage.  Smartphone users can download the “MYTSA” app, https://www.tsa.gov/mobile, to find information about TSA policies and procedures.

In carry-on bags, pack liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces to ensure compliance with the liquids rule. All liquids must fit in a one-quart clear bag. This rule does not apply to checked baggage.

At the security checkpoint remove all electronics larger than a cell phone and the liquids bag from carry-on baggage.

Wrapped gifts are permitted in checked or carry-on baggage. Be aware that if a wrapped gift alarms the security screening equipment, appears to have been tampered with, or poses other security concerns, it may need to be unwrapped for additional screening. Consider using a gift bag instead of traditional wrapping to simplify the screening process.

Items such as food products and footwear may require additional screening because of how they appear on a screening machine.
